My personal wellbeing through lockdown

Hey you,

How are you? No seriously, I want to know how are you feeling?

Have you been feeling blue lately? If yes, then all I want to say is that you are not alone.

Lockdown 2 and then the uncertainty around when will life be normal again just took a toll on me at the start of last month. While I have absolutely enjoyed working on some fantastic projects on the business front, there were all these thoughts that were making me feel overwhelmed all the time!I knew it was time for me to practice what I preach and switch off from all that noise. It took some much needed (forced) time off a couple of weeks back for me to reflect on what I need to do in order to get over this feeling and feel more positive and uplifted.

I thought it is about time I share my thoughts, the reminders and actions that have helped me feel calmer. It is still very much a work in progress but hopefully one of these suggestions could be a good starting point for you so read on-

Celebrating every success

One of the things that instantly uplifted my mood was to make a list of all my victories over the past few months. This year despite all the doom and gloom (well relatively speaking) I have two very special recognitions to share-

1)- TPL Experiences won the Prestige awards for the Experience of the year 2020 for the West Yorkshire region. I must be honest, I did not expect to win it considering we were up against some very big and established names in the industry. We are forever grateful for this really special achievement.

2)- TPL Experiences has also made it to the TOP 100 list as part of the much celebrated SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY CAMPAIGN. The campaign recognises 100 small businesses across the country every year, we have been told that this year they received an astounding number of entries so honestly beyond happy to make it to the list.

Thinking about these highlights has made me feel a lot more positive and grateful so may I suggest you try the same? It could be a line of praise from a colleague or a lovely hug from your loved one to say thanks! Go on, I know you want to make that list :)

What are you looking forward to?

Another part of our lives that we all have missed is 'planning ahead'. With new rules coming in every day and general anxiety about being safe, I have missed planning parties, holidays, trip back to India etc etc.

This year while none of that is happening on the personal front, what has more than covered up for that loss are the exciting VIRTUAL CHRISTMAS TEAM EVENTS I am planning for my clients. In fact I am also planning my own special team building celebration with my associates and select few partners!

I guess what I am trying to say is that despite the current circumstances and all the restrictions, we can most definitely feel excited about the future by planning a special virtual event with friends, families and colleagues. We need to end this year on a happy note, right?

If you are looking for any suggestions to plan a fun, exciting and interactive event then please feel free to ping me. And if you need any inspiration for planning your team Christmas celebrations then why not check out our activity list below?

Get rid of the imposter!

Have you been feeling like an imposter lately? I certainly have and this is despite working on some absolutely brilliant wellbeing and skill development programs. Honestly I think it is the fact that we all have been so busy 'doing stuff' throughout lockdown that we have probably not hit PAUSE to think about who we are and what makes us amazing!

To that, my go to tip would be to meet new people and find opportunities to share your story. Through lockdown, I have pushed myself to discover opportunities that help me share my story and hopefully inspire someone out there! That is the reason why I have managed to feature in not one, not two but three amazing podcasts! And you know the highlight of it all? I have met three brilliant women through this experience. Each on their own path to achieve their goals, to follow their purpose and shine brighter! I absolutely LOVE the opportunities that spark of thanks to social media (I have a love/hate relationship with it!, will explain some other time.)

I would highly recommend tuning in to all the episodes (link in previous blog) not because it features me although that is a great reason too, but because it is packed with useful insights about business, pivoting, confidence and self care! All topics that are very dear to me :) HIT the link below to tune in- https://www.tplexperiences.com/this-pampered-life/podcasts

Find your space

And my last tip would be to find your space to do your thing! I have realised that as a converted Extrovert, I have found the whole 'not meeting friends for coffee' rule quite frustrating. This has resulted in me feeling anxious and blah at times. What has helped however has been planning virtual catch ups with my friends, calls that have no agenda! I have also managed to plan a few walks with friends to recharge and catch up.

Another aspect that has helped is finding time to pursue my passions and hobbies. While this is great for general wellbeing regardless of the external climate, I feel it has been particularly beneficial to zone out within your own home and create a 'passion corner' for yourself or a 'no-agenda call zone', these little tweaks can make a massive difference if you are stuck at home most of the day!

Finding your space can also mean trying to find ways of supporting others. Giving has incredible power! I believe that, of course not to your own detriment but to be of help to someone without expecting anything in return can help you in unimaginable ways. Over the last eight months, I have volunteered my time and expertise on innumerable occasions. Be it mentoring young people, holding wellbeing workshops for deprived communities, showing up at events that need my support, organising events for my network etc. It has been time consuming- yes but at the same time it has helped me pay it forward in my own way.

I hope at least one of these tips would have resonated with you, would love to know if there is anything else you have tried that has worked for your wellbeing?

I constantly remind myself that- We will get through this and whatever be our current state of mind, there is always plenty to be grateful for :)
